Sound installation, 2018
Commissioned by nGbK Berlin for the exhibition The Influencing Maschine
Score book, office carpet, directional speakers
Based on hand-drawn scores, the sound installation deals with the opaque bot economy. Bots are algorithmic, programmed intelligences who mostly perform redundant activities at high speed. They collect and process large amounts of data to be able to act more and more indistinctly on human actions through “deep learning”.
Deep Poison” explores the hearing of whistleblower and former Google Analytica research leader Christopher Wylie in the UK Parliament in March 2018. Since the legal situation regarding the production and use of bots is still unclear, Google Analytica could strategically “poison” undetected and internationally democratic elections by means of bot communication.
In sound montage and pitch changes, “Deep Poison” reinforces what is repeatedly referred to in the hearing as realities from the ‘James Bond’ series. This narrative is interwoven with sonifications of redundant bot activities.
